If you plan ahead it can actually pay off

Written on September 18, 2008 – 8:55 pm | by Adam

I have found from my research into weight loss, what can help people reach their goal weight. The answer is lists and thinking ahead. Some people will do things as they come up and do things as they need doing. The thing is that without a specific plan , we become vunerable to our environment and what plans other people have. It doesn’t matter how appealing our goal weight is, we are heading in that direction without really knowing how long it will take us to get there.

As I have mentioned previously my milestone and goal weight loss is a loss of 40kg. I need to keep on top of my progress as much as possible and I also need to be accountable, I have found that this blog has helped me do that. The thing is I don’t know how long it will take me to get there. So in the mean time what I can do is come up with some mini goals along the way, this is my list, this helps to break it down and the end result does not end up seeming so hard to attain. My first goal as I previously have mentioned is 10% my body weight, but I have slipped in a mini goal, before I lose my first 10% I want to lost my first 5kg, once achieved I will celebrate. Celebrating helps you recognise you achieved something.

It helps you realise you have been successful in something.

We celebrate birthdays all the time, is it because we are celebrating the fact that we have lived another year? Well yes it is, we have lived another year and we are a year older, I think that is worth celebrating, I think getting a new job is worth celebrating, getting the car you always wanted to own is worth celebrating, there are so many things that we do and achieve that we should be celebrating. Why do we limit ourselves to only celebrate some things? If we didn’t celebrate how would we know we actually achieved something? If we didn’t celebrate it would be like every other day?

What could you celebrate today?

What sort of things could go on your list?

Fresh vegetables are more nutritious than frozen?

Written on September 13, 2008 – 3:04 pm | by Adam

As some of you may or may not know I am a vegetarian and have been for the last 12 months, now I know it sounds funny that a vegetarian can be over weight, but I was over weight before I became a vegetarian and due to my poor eating habits whilst being a vegetarian, (there is no meat in cakes and chips) I have tried to find out what is the better option for my food choices. I wanted to find out what would help me lose weight quicker, I had always thought, store bought was the best way to go, until I did a little research.

Research has shown that fresh vegetables are just as nutritious as store-bought fresh, unless you have a vegie patch in your yard then you are getting the same. Frozen vegetables are picked at their peak and snap-frozen close to where they are grown and picked where as some ‘fresh’ vegetables are transported long distances after harvesting, losing nutrients as they sit on supermarket or fridge shelves. Having vegetables and frozen berries in your freezer is a great alternative to the store bought ‘fresh’ vegetables you might be used to.

Look to the future and plan ahead

Written on September 12, 2008 – 8:18 am | by Adam

It’s always good to plan ahead, good plans can shape out to be good decisions.
Good plans always start with goals, start with the goal so you can then work out what you need to do to get there. Obviously our main goal would be to reach our goal weight, but for some people it might be maintaining that goal weight. What ever it might be, we need to plan ahead to achieve these goals.

For me my goal is to lose 40kg, I have no time or date set to achieve this as it is open, the reason why I have left it open is because there will be some times where I might not lose any weight and in the worst circumstance I might actually put on weight. I am OK with that.

So the first part of planning ahead is deciding where you are heading, and setting realistic, achievable, long-term weight loss goals.

You can increase your chances of achieving these long-term goals by breaking them down into smaller goals, my first small goal is lose 10% of my body weight, this means I need to get to 102.4kg, that would equate to a weight loss of 11.4kg, that’s a great goal, by the way, weigh in was last night and I have shed another 1.2kg, total weight loss is 4.7kg, very pleased! I have worked out the steps I will need to take to achieve these smaller goals, this is something you can do too.

Part of the process of setting these steps is working out what works for you, whether it be drinking more water, making the right food choices or simply excercising more. It could even be something as simple as taking your lunch to work or walking in the morning for 15 minutes around the block a couple times, it’s up to you, do what ever you feel comfortable doing but make it stick!

Share some of your tips for goal setting or share some of your success stories with us. We would love to hear them.

Organically Grown Foods are better for weight loss?

Written on September 11, 2008 – 9:42 pm | by Adam

I have heard a lot of people say that organically grown foods are more nutritious, and that it actually tastes better. But the word organic, really only describes how farmers grow, handle and process foods.

From my research on the internet, the scientific evidence is limited and trials have shown no overall nutritional difference in organic versus conventionally grown foods. Conventionally and organically grown foods have the exact same kilojoules.

Neither one is more beneficial than the other to help lose weight and the personal baggage, choosing to eat organic is purley a personal choice.

It never stops

Written on September 11, 2008 – 7:54 am | by Adam

I have found that losing weight is not just about the food I eat and how much exercise I do, it’s also about changing the way I think about food and how I do things. It is then a case of making sure I continue to do these things throughout my journey.

Let’s face it, losing weight doesn’t end with reaching a goal weight, it is then about maintaining that goal weight. So it is a life long process.

One of the important elements of losing weight is to work out what hinders you from reaching your goal weight. Once you have acknowledged what they are you can seek out better ways to do things through books, the internet or speaking with others.

One place to share could be right here, feel free to let us know share what is hindering you, maybe someone that is reading this post had the same issue and can share with you what helped them.

Sure, everyone is different but if we can take something little from the help we get, we might be able to use it to help us in a big way.

In the near future I will share with you some of the key changes which have helped me most.

In the mean time check out this Rule book I found for Idiots researching weight loss on the internet. Click Here

Changes can take some time

Written on September 9, 2008 – 8:46 pm | by Adam

I have been thinking about what has been happening in my life and what has been happening to my body now that I am losing weight, I don’t know if it is my imagination or if I am already changing. I know that change can not be rushed or forced and it truly starts to happen when you’re really ready to go for it, but I think my shirt fits a little better and I have moved a hole on my belt!
I have not moved a hole for years, and when I was moving before it was a move in the wrong direction.

Small changes can make a big difference.

If you gain a better understanding of the small changes that work for you, share them with us, we would love to hear what you did to lose your personal baggage.

Weigh in, way in control again!

Written on September 7, 2008 – 10:06 pm | by Adam

I know, I know, the post is late, I should have already let you all know what has been going on, well it seems that I am back on track, remember the .9kg I put on, well this week I have lost it again, down .9kg, so back to the total loss of 3.5kg, I am really happy about this result.

I was careful with what I ate and made sure I didn’t eat too much.

I felt really good about the weight loss, it was another well earned loss and I really feel that at this rate I could lose close to a kg if not a kg each week.

In my next post I will let you know what my current goal is and what this personal baggage challenge means to me at the moment, and by what it means to me, I mean what is going to be my reward for the first goal.

Remember, keep an eye on what you eat and don’t go back for seconds.

Going well for weigh in day

Written on September 2, 2008 – 10:39 pm | by Adam

I have been doing pretty well this week after the no weight loss from last week I am sure to pull a good number this Thursday.

The increase was a minor set back, but I have learnt a valuable lesson from it as mentioned and I am choosing to no longer dwell upon it.

You know one of the things that really made me stop and think about what I was doing about my health was the arrival of my daughter who is now 7 months old, during late nights (as any parent will know, in the beginning there are may late nights) I would hold her in my arms to get her to sleep, sometimes this could take hours, I would stop and think to myself about what I was really doing while I watched her sleep, I wanted to make sure I was going to be around for a while,  I knew I had to take action. It became a “must” to lose weight.

While my daughter would sleep in my arms I would hop online and scour the internet for an answer to my question, how do I lose weight?

I must admit I came across some interesting answers, one however, really stuck out, I found this to be one of the best diet tools I have used to implement a strategy to get on top of this weight loss journey. I have included a link for you to save some time looking for the information yourself. Click Here!

The truth was revealed.

Written on August 28, 2008 – 11:09 pm | by Adam

As I had previously mentioned I ate some things I probably should have steered away from considering I am in the weight loss game, however not to look at it from a negative point, I did learn a valuable lesson, if you want to lose weight you have to work heard, it’s not easy, you have to be really dedicated to the cause, it is something you have to stick with and it’s not something you can do when you feel like it.

You have to be hard at it all the time, you have to make sure you keep on top of it, so that it doesn’t get on top of you.

I put on weight.

I don’t want to be hard on myself and I shouldn’t feel guilty about it. I put on .9kg, yes a gain is a gain, all it means is I have to work harder at it, I think I got too cocky with the losses I was getting. This has brought me back down to reality.

In some ways I am kinda glad it happened.

I know it’s early…

Written on August 26, 2008 – 1:50 pm | by Adam

I jumped on the scales last night because I wanted to see how much damage control I would need to do. It didn’t look good, but it was late and I had only just finished dinner.

Nothing to reveal as yet, Thursday will come round soon enough.

All meals have been good meals, just portion controlling, along with making sure I drink plenty of water.

Hopefully I will be able to redeem something and will be able to lose weight again this week.
